Silicon Wool Overview
Silicon Wool is an innovative composite material formed by combining sponge with liquid silicone; typically, the sponge component accounts for 15%–40% of the composition, while the liquid silicone accounts for 60%–85%. It is renowned for its unique properties and broad applicability. Designed to meet diverse industrial requirements, silicone foam combines the elasticity of silicone with the softness of sponge, thereby delivering a uniquely comfortable experience in applications such as mattresses and household goods. It has now become an indispensable key component across numerous fields of application. Thanks to its lightweight yet durable characteristics, silicone foam is gaining increasing favor across a wide spectrum of industries.

Characteristics of Silicon Wool
Comfort and Support: Silicon Wool features a soft yet resilient, springy texture that contours to the body's shape, providing uniform pressure distribution and moderate support. Its hardness value is approximately 43 (based on standard sponge hardness scales), placing it within the medium firm range.
Silicon Wool Durability and Stability:Thanks to its silicone composition, Silicon Wool is resistant to both high and low temperatures. It resists deformation and collapse even after prolonged use, maintaining excellent resilience and shape retention.
Breathability and Dryness: The material features a typical internal porous, mesh like structure with interconnected air cells, ensuring excellent breathability.
It is also hydrophobic,water molecules are not easily absorbed and evaporate quickly upon contact with the surface. This helps keep the mattress dry, reducing sensations of stuffiness as well as the proliferation of bacteria and dust mites.
Cleanability and Eco Friendliness: It is washable; after cleaning, simply shaking the material removes most of the water, facilitating rapid drying. The liquid silicone used is typically food grade, making the material itself non-toxic and harmless;
however, when purchasing, it is advisable to verify whether the product has passed safety and quality certifications such as SGS.
Some mattresses utilizing this material allow for the independent removal and washing—or replacement of the filling layer, thereby enhancing cleaning convenience and offering greater long-term economic value.
Manufacturing Process and Current Status: The manufacturing process typically involves subjecting a coarse-pored sponge to a "blast-opening" treatment to create open cells, followed by immersion in food-grade liquid silicone. The material is then uniformly compressed and heat set at high temperatures to finalize its form.
The manufacturing technology is currently quite mature; while considered a relatively new type of material, its surface texture may feel slightly coarse to the touch. Additionally, upon initial delivery, it may retain a faint burnt odor resulting from the blast-opening process used during manufacturing.
