Quartz glass wool is a fluffy,Fluffy microfiber material produced by melting high-purity quartz rods at high temperatures and then using a blowing process. Its fibers are arranged randomly, with a soft texture and containing a large amount of static air inside, thereby granting it excellent thermal insulation properties.
1. Thermal Performance
Quartz glass wool offers superior temperature resistance, capable of operating stably in environments of 1050-1100°C, with short-term tolerance reaching up to 1500°C. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is extremely low, allowing it to withstand drastic temperature changes without cracking or powdering. Furthermore, its thermal conductivity coefficient, combined with the disordered and curled fiber structure, effectively traps air, significantly reducing heat transfer. It is suitable for high-temperature insulation scenarios, such as high-heat-flux protective structures like nozzle throats and ablation layers of re-entry capsules, as well as sealing gaskets for high-temperature pipelines and valve flanges, and filling materials for furnace openings in industrial furnaces like optical fiber drawing towers and glass tempering furnaces.
2. Physical and Mechanical Properties
It exhibits excellent dimensional stability and maintains relatively high strength even at elevated temperatures. With a wide fiber diameter range (1-14μm), it consists of fluffy microfiber that offer strong adaptability in form. It can be packed according to the needs of different application scenarios. The inherent curled structure of the fibers also provides resilience during packing, reducing compressive stress and thereby enhancing sealing and insulation effectiveness.
3. Chemical Stability
With a silicon dioxide purity of ≥99.95% and containing no binders, it produces no volatiles at high temperatures, meeting stringent cleanliness requirements in fields such as semiconductor manufacturing and laboratory analysis. It is suitable for semiconductor diffusion furnace tube insulation seals, gas chromatography liner packing, etc. Additionally, it possesses excellent chemical corrosion resistance, able to withstand attacks from acids, strong alkalis, and various organic solvents. This also makes it suitable for filtration and insulation in extremely harsh environments like reactor exhaust gas treatment and chemical reactor linings.
4. Electrical Performance
It offers excellent electrical insulation properties, making it an ideal high-temperature insulating material. Its low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss contribute to excellent wave transparency. When used as an insulating filler layer, it can simultaneously meet the dual requirements of wave transparency and thermal insulation. It can also be used in areas with extremely high demands on comprehensive material performance, such as aircraft skin.
Quartz glass wool combines high-temperature resistance, high strength, lightweight nature, chemical inertness, electrical insulation, and wave transparency into one material. It is not only widely used for shaped filling insulation and filtration/adsorption in industrial equipment but also serves as an indispensable key foundational material in high-tech industries such as aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, and precision analytical instruments.
